A Conversation with George Szirtes

Many of you may have just recently heard of George Szirtes — he is one of the main translators of the Nobel Prize winner Laszlo Kraznakorkhai. But George is actually much more interesting than that. He is an exceptional poet and by that I mean not only does he write poetry but he explores poetry and all its possibilities. Back during the twitter days, he used to experiment a lot with poetry on twitter. He says he does it on facebook now so I must find him again.

George used to teach at the University of East Anglia, where I did my Masters. That’s how we know each other and he very graciously agreed to do this conversation.

We talk about poetry, experiments, translations, life, and of course Laszlo.

TRANSCRIPT:

(00:00:14):

How has life been?

(00:00:18):

Has things been different for you?

(00:00:22):

I don’t want to talk about Lazlo much at all in this thing.

(00:00:25):

It’s really about you I’m more interested in, but I’m just curious.

(00:00:29):

Has people been treating you differently or not?
